ASTM E1105 in the Field: Testing, Troubleshooting & Real-World Water Penetration Investigations

This presentation will be delivered by Johnathon Bain, P.Eng., Q.Adj.(Const.), Principal at Bow Valley Engineering, and Cyril Atemnkeng, Engineering Student Intern and Co-Presenter. Johnathon has nearly 20 years of experience in building science and construction across Western Canada, including extensive work in building enclosure investigations and ASTM E1105 field water penetration testing.

The presentation will provide an overview of ASTM E1105 field water penetration testing for installed windows, doors, and curtain wall systems using a pressurized chamber and calibrated spray rack. The session will cover the history of the standard, how testing is performed, common field challenges, and real project examples of water penetration investigations.
