Overview:

Urbanization and climate change have an impact on stormwater management. In urban areas, impermeable surfaces—such as roads, parking lots and buildings—prevent rainwater from infiltrating into the ground, which can lead to flooding and pollution of surface water. Moreover, climate change aggravates these problems by increasing the intensity and frequency of rainfall, which puts more pressure on stormwater management systems.
Municipalities are therefore calling on designers to deliver integrating stormwater management practices in urban development projects. Roofs are a key element to consider in order to comply with the regulations put in place by municipalities, in addition to meeting the requirements of sustainable construction.
This seminar discusses the stormwater challenges we currently face and provides an overview of the use of green and blue roofing systems in order to meet these needs.

Learning Objective 1 – Gain insight to Western Canada’s changing stormwater management needs by looking at drivers and constraints.

Learning Objective 2 – Identify the main benefits and challenges of green & blue roofs in the built environment.

Learning Objective 3 – Review basic types, components, and functions of green & blue roofing systems.

This talk is being presented by Josh Stewart. This Lunch ‘n Learn is good for 1 CEH credit. AAA registrants will receive 1.0 Structured learning hour
